Summary: Purchase food and food related products in accordance with Company objectives and merchandise products to our Marketing Associates in an effort to better service our customers.
Responsibilities and Duties: Purchase food related products in proper quantities which maximizes service levels and inventory turns. Negotiate the best prices, programs and promotions. Perform needed tracking and updates to maintain zero tolerance pricing errors. Evaluate competitive suppliers, products, prices, and programs. Present comparisons to management. Review logistics programs and freight for accuracy. Remove, sell, or return any excess and/or obsolete inventory. Train new Marketing Associates (sales) in product knowledge. Participate in sales meeting, trade shows, mini shows and customer presentations. Complete special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Full-time position working Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be flexible and willing to work long hours to fulfill obligations. Bachelor’s degree; two years food related purchasing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Minimum of 1 (one) year high level food related negotiating experience. Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook and spreadsheet programs. Ability to calculate discounts, proportions, percentages and volume required. Requires effective presentation and communication skills, ability to solve practical problems that involve a variety of concrete variables. Strong organization, follow-up, and attention to detail required to operate in a busy environment with high stress levels and critical deadlines.
