This on call floating position is trained to work within several areas of the Sodexo healthcare food service production and support functions. These range from retail cafι, patient food services, food preparation, and dishwashing. The floater is scheduled to work when employees take vacations or leaves, and is on call for unexpected absences. Hours will vary from week to week except during the initial training period. Responsibilities of this position will include:
Retail Cafι Services: Sets up, prepares, serves, replenishes, and breaks down food from counters and steam tables. Brews, mixes, and serves hot and cold beverages. Greets customers, takes food orders, prepares and sells food items. Records all sales, collects money, and operates a cash register. Cleans and maintains the food and beverage workstations, counters, and equipment.
Patient Food Services: Assists patients with menu selections and placing meal orders via telephone and enters into computer system. Assembles patient food orders, and delivers food trays to hospital patients.
Food Prep Helper: Assists in food preparation. Operates a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, season and knead ingredient for cooking, serving, and storing.
Dishwashing: Collects dishes from patient floors. Washes dishes using a dishwashing machine. Hand washes pots and pans. Cleans work tables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks. Removes trash and garage to designated areas.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. 2 years of food service experience in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of operating a business telephone system. Ability to enter data into a computer system. Knowledge of operating a cash register and ability to accurately handle money Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to speak and read fluent English. Ability to work under limited supervision. Strong attendance record required. Self directed with problem solving abilities. Ability to thrive in a team environment and work well with others.
Work Requirements Must be at least 18 years old. Able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays, day and evening shifts. Requires the ability to be on call and report to work with little notice. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work under the pressure of assisting multiple customers and preparing several food orders simultaneously. Ability to work under pressure taking multiple calls and inquiries. Requires the physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and push/lift/move heavy equipment and supplies. Ability to work at both Memorial Hospital Central and North locations. Reliable transportation required.
